About 150 youth volunteer leaders from 25 countries are at the IAVE Youth Conference that kicked off on Monday, September 15 evening at the Watermark Hotel in Surfers Paradise.

The youth conference precedes the 23rd IAVE World Volunteer Conference that will be held from September 17 to 20 at the Gold Coast Convention Centre and will see 1,000 volunteer leaders from over 40 countries across the world meet to share best practices, challenges and future trends in volunteering.

Both events are organised under the patronage of His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales with the theme, Volunteering – Today’s Imperative.

The ceremony featured Benson Saulo, Director of Indigenous Leadership Network of Victoria, who gave the opening keynote. Also present to welcome delegates were the Hon. Tracy Davis MP, Queensland Minister for Communities, Child Safety, Disabilities, Dr. Lee Kang Hyun, President International Association for Volunteer Effort, Tim Jackson, President Volunteering Australia and Brett Williamson, CEO of Volunteering Australia.

The 23rd IAVE World Volunteer Conference is organised by the International Association for Volunteer Effort (IAVE) and hosted by the National peak body for volunteering, Volunteering Australia. This is only the second time in 44 years that Australia will host to this international event. Full conference details are available on www.iave2014.org
