International Volunteer Day

International Volunteer Day (IVD) is mandated by the UN General Assembly and is held each year on 5 December. It is a day for volunteers and volunteer-involving organisations to celebrate their efforts and to showcase the difference they make in their communities. Events are held to honour and acknowledge the outstanding work and contribution of volunteers to change the world for a better future.

On International Volunteer Day join us in acknowledging and enhancing people’s participation, engagement and voice, in shaping our nation and the world we want through the spirit of volunteerism.

UN Volunteers have yet to announce a theme for International Volunteer Day 2016. Keep an eye on the VA website for more information and resources.
