National Volunteer Week 2012: Wrap Up

National Volunteer Week is over for 2012 and what an amazing success it has been.

The media attention to volunteering during NVW increased yet again to more than 1,500 media hits recorded by our media monitoring. That doesnt include the number of social media hits with traffic on Twitter so busy that NVW trended in Australia, meaning that it recorded significant traffic on Twitter. Not bad when you consider we were competing with Julia, Tony, Lady Gaga and The Voice. The growth of social media is a real challenge for the NFP sector ignore it at your peril.

The week was launched by Laura Smyth MP, Member for La Trobe deputising for the Minister for Social Inclusion, Mark Butler. The function was hosted by our partner NAB.  VA is grateful for the support of NAB as well as our other NVW partner, Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet.

The NVW collateral did sell out with more than 70,000 lapel pins sent around Australia. In fact the demand for NVW collateral again reached record levels.

NVW continues to grow each year so please make a note of the dates for 2013 - 13th to 19th May.
