Victorian Bushfire Support
Thank you for your interest in volunteering to help with the bushfire recovery. An overwhelming public response has already seen tens of thousands of people register to volunteer from Victoria, around Australia, and across the world.
Although we are currently no longer taking new registrations for the bushfire response, we would encourage people to consider local community volunteering opportunities.
Community Development Minister Peter Batchelor said the Victorian Government and Volunteering Australia were grateful that so many people have offered their assistance and support to fire-affected communities.
"The efforts of these unprecedented numbers of volunteers will be crucial to the rebuilding of the devastated parts of Victoria", Mr Batchelor said.
"I thank the generous people who have offered their time and skills to help others in need - each and every offer is greatly valued".
For those that have already registered as volunteers, the Victorian Government and Volunteering Victoria are currently reviewing registrations and facilitating the matching of volunteers where there are immediate needs.
The majority of opportunities, however, will arise later as volunteers are needed for the longer term effort to help rebuild communities. We are passing volunteer details onto a range of major volunteering organisations that will need more volunteers in the future. You will be contacted directly by these organisations when they need some extra help.
In the meantime you may wish to revisit www.govolunteer.com.au and use the search function to locate other volunteering opportunities available in your local area. By joining an agency now, you can contribute to ongoing community volunteering activities, and also be trained and prepared to help should another emergency arise.
Thank you once again for your interest in volunteering.
