National Volunteer Skills Centre (NVSC)

The National Volunteer Skills Centre (NVSC) is an initiative arising from the International Year of the Volunteer in 2001. With initial funding from the Commonwealth Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs, the NVSC has developed an extensive range of resources for volunteers and volunteer managers.

There are three key goals of the NVSC:

  • to support volunteers and organisations to build their skills and knowledge;
  • to strengthen networks and encourage collaboration and the sharing of information;
  • to reduce the duplication of resources and the costs associated with skills development and training.

To achieve these goals, Volunteering Australia has developed a number of resources and provides a range of services, including:

  • Nationally recognised qualifications for volunteers and volunteer managers;
  • Dozens of free training resources and materials for volunteers, trainers and managers of volunteers;
  • Best practice tips and advice for not for profit organisations and volunteers;
  • A training calendar to find workshops, seminars and conferences.

All these resources and services can be found under the Skills and Training section of our website:
