The foundations of best practice

Best practice volunteer management is the best way for an organisation to recognise volunteers.  It ensures volunteers are safe, appreciated for their efforts and are not exploited or discriminated against.

Volunteers make an immense contribution to our society, contributing tens of billions of dollars to the Australian economy each year, and sustaining hundreds of thousands of not for profit organisations large and small.

We have developed, in consultation with the not for profit sector, a range of documents supporting best practice in volunteering.  These documents can be used to ensure your organisation does all it can to support its volunteers.

The Definition and Principles of Volunteering and volunteer rights provide the framework for best practice volunteer management.

The Principles of Volunteering: Why have them? This web article explores the intention behind the principles of volunteering.

The Model Code of Practice and the National Standards for Involving Volunteers in Not for Profit Organisations set the benchmark for best practice and provide more detailed guidance for organisations.
