Dale – Ambulance Wish

You are here: Home / Share Your Story / Dale – Ambulance Wish

May 18, 2024 by Volunteering Australia

Meet Dale, a dedicated volunteer at Ambulance Wish Qld (Palliative Care Qld), sharing their journey as part of our Share Your Story series.

Volunteering with Ambulance Wish Qld “It is an incredibly meaningful experience to volunteer with Ambulance Wish Qld. I have become part of the organisation that I truly believe in. I’m extremely grateful to be involved in making a positive difference in the lives of our wish recipients and love every minute of my volunteering journey.”

Seeing the World Differently “You get a lot out of volunteering, and it makes you look at the world a little differently! As Nike says – ‘Just Do It’ – You will be glad you did!”

The Joy of Making a Difference “As I leave every wish I have been on, and volunteered for a whole day, I drive home with a smile on my face, knowing that I just changed someone’s life – or in the case of Ambulance Wish Qld – at the end of their life.”

Encouragement to Future Volunteers “You just need to bite the bullet and get out and volunteer! It’s really that easy – just make the call – You will not regret ever signing up to help others.”

Photo Descriptions

Natasha’s Last Wish: Was to go to Movie World with her family and watch her children enjoy every ride at Movie World! The photo is me in the middle and 2 other volunteers for the day.

Adrian’s Last Wish: Was to have a fairy party for her children in her hospital room. We dressed her children up, played games, invited Miss Elsa along and had the best time making wonderful memories for this very young family. In the photo I am reading to the children after dressing them up.

Gigi’s Last Wish: I am presenting Gigi with her Paramedic Teddy Bear (we present every wish recipient with a Teddy Bear). His name is Mr Kees. Gigi’s wish was to watch the orchestra play at sunset in Brisbane, but she was too unwell to attend so we took the experience to her – we had 150 tealight candles we set up in her home, and we set up a live cross to the orchestra who played a special tune just for her!
