On International Volunteer Day, we pause to honour the millions of people across Australia who give their time, energy, and compassion in service of others. Their contribution is profound. It strengthens communities, deepens social cohesion, and reminds us of the powerful things we can achieve when kindness and purpose come together.
Every hour given, every skill shared, and every act of solidarity helps build a more connected and resilient Australia. Today, we acknowledge not only the impact volunteers deliver, but the spirit they embody.
To every volunteer, thank you.
Your generosity inspires us, guides our work, and shapes a future where volunteering is at the heart of every community.
We are proud to support the global Call to Action for the Future of Volunteering, launched at the United Nations. The Call reflects the voices of nearly 14,000 people from 164 countries and outlines what is needed to strengthen, recognise, and protect volunteers everywhere.
In Australia, that Call is being realised through the implementation of the National Strategy for Volunteering.
Investing now in the activities and resources that sustain volunteering will build on the creation of the National Strategy and on Australia’s strong history of volunteering.
Together, we’re building a connected and inclusive global volunteering movement—one that recognises, values, and strengthens volunteering in all its forms.
We stand with the movement and invite our community to learn more and get involved.
