Meet Gelly, Chaplain at ChaplainWatch , whose leadership blends compassion, innovation, and the courage to co-create change alongside volunteers. In this Share Your Story – Volunteer Managers Edition feature for International Volunteer Managers Day (IVMDay), Gelly shares how bold leadership means empowering volunteers to shape the future of their service — from raising awareness in nightlife precincts to creating space for honest dialogue and collective visioning.
Why Bold Leadership Matters in Volunteer Management

Through Bold Leadership, ChaplainWatch is opening new opportunities for our volunteers to make bigger and more diverse contributions to the support we offer, our social media presence, and other ways of raising awareness of way we serve in our communities.
With greater awareness of ChaplainWatch’s supportive teams in the nighttime entertainment precincts, there is more assurance for those visiting these precincts as well as for the loved ones waiting at home.
Through Bold Leadership, we are working to empower our volunteers to contribute in new and exciting ways, co-dreaming with them.
Proudest Achievement as a Volunteer Manager
One of the proudest achievements I have accomplished is creating a Volunteer Voices Group. This offers our volunteers even more ways to speak about those concerns closest to their hearts, to connect with the voices of volunteers in other precincts, and to have their voices heard across the whole organisation.
One piece of advice for fellow Volunteer Managers
Seasons change, so we need to be ready to ride the wave of this current season, listening and giving voice to our volunteers wherever possible, and enriching their experiences for each new tomorrow.
