Department of Social Services
The Department of Social Services (DSS) aspires to be the Australian Government’s lead agency for social policy. DSS works in partnership with other government and non government organisations to manage a diverse range of programs, payments and services, which aim to improve the lifetime wellbeing of people and families in Australia, encouraging independence and participation, and supporting a cohesive society.
Volunteering is an important element of this work, with funding available to support and encourage volunteering, including Volunteering Australia as the national peak body.

Australian Sports Commission
Volunteering plays a critical role in sport and Australians are dependent on volunteers to keep our community clubs open and our players playing.
The Australian Sports Commission and Volunteering Australia, two peak industry bodies, have formalised a partnership to work collaboratively and encourage more Australians to become volunteers. Included in this Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), signed by the two organisations in December 2022, is a renewed focus on growing and enhancing the sport volunteer workforce and implementing the Sport Volunteer Coalition Action Plan announced in September 2022.
Volunteers play a critical role within the Australian sporting landscape with nearly three million Australians giving their time, but more are needed to grow sport at all levels. This is especially important as we embark on the green and gold decade of opportunity, leading into the Brisbane Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2032 and beyond.

Community Broadcasting Association of Australia
The Community Broadcasting Association of Australia (CBAA) and Volunteering Australia have partnered to promote the integral role of volunteering in community broadcasting.
Key among the partnership’s goals is creating a more supportive environment for volunteers and ensuring that their contributions are recognised and celebrated by corporate, philanthropic and government bodies.
The Community Broadcasting Association of Australia (CBAA) is a leading member based, for purpose organisation. CBAA provide programs and services that aim to strengthen over 450 community radio, local and independent media organisations.
With almost five million listeners each week, community radio plays a vital role in providing a voice for multicultural, First Nations and other underrepresented groups, as well as supporting independent and emerging musicians, and communities not adequately serviced by other media services.
Invictus Australia
Invictus Australia and Volunteering Australia have partnered to support the wellbeing of veterans and their families through volunteering. Our strategic partnership formalises our shared vision to harness the power of volunteering to enable connection and purpose, which are critical elements of successfully transitioning from military to civilian life. By aligning our efforts, we hope to enable more opportunities for veterans and their families to contribute their unique skills and experience to building more inclusive communities and enhancing their own wellbeing.
Invictus Australia is a leading nonprofit organisation dedicated to strengthening the health and wellbeing of veterans and their and their families through the power of sport. We support and encourage former and current serving members of the Defence community and their families as they connect and engage with their communities through sport, at a grassroots level or internationally, to assist with recovery, rehabilitation, and reintegration, or to proactively manage wellbeing.

Save the Children
In late 2020, Volunteering Australia and Save the Children Australia formed a partnership to promote and positively impact volunteering – volunteering that helps build better communities for children.
Save the Children manages and implements programs that support children in more than 197 communities and locations across Australia. Volunteers play a critical role within the Save the Children community with over 2,500 volunteers around Australia including more than 500 in fundraising, almost 2000 in retail and over 80 in program support.
The partnership announcement comes as COVID-19 wreaks havoc on children and their rights. Save the Children has predicted that as many as 10 million children will never return to school following various lockdowns around the world. Many children will be forced into early marriage or work as a consequence of the economic impact of COVID-19.
Volunteering Australia and Save the Children have identified key focus areas to explore under their new partnership – attracting more volunteers to the sector and resources to better support them; encouraging a ‘whole of government’ volunteering strategy, to be developed with the sector; and promoting and celebrating the contribution of volunteers.
