Jenny – Raise Foundation and Others

You are here: Home / Share Your Story / Jenny – Raise Foundation and Others

May 18, 2024 by Volunteering Australia

Meet Jenny, a volunteer with Raise Foundation, Lifeline, Kookaburra Kids, Warrior Women, Diversity and Disability Alliance, just to name a few, sharing their story as part of our ‘Share Your Story’ series.

Passion for Advocacy

“My extensive volunteer work and involvement in various committees demonstrate a profound commitment to making a positive impact in my community, particularly in the realm of mental health and disability advocacy. I am deeply passionate about advocating for the rights and well-being of individuals with disabilities and those struggling with mental health issues. This passion stems from personal experiences and a strong sense of empathy and justice.”

Desire for Social Change

“By participating in committees and other projects, I actively seek to contribute to broader social change and systemic improvements in mental health and disability support systems. My volunteer work reflects a desire to address societal challenges and make meaningful contributions to creating a more inclusive and supportive environment.”

Personal Growth and Learning

“Engaging in volunteer activities allows me to learn and grow continuously. Whether it’s through leadership development programs, training courses, or collaborative projects, I find fulfilment in acquiring new skills, knowledge, and perspectives.”

Connection and Community

“Volunteering often provides opportunities to connect with like-minded individuals, build supportive networks, and foster a sense of belonging within communities dedicated to similar causes. I find inspiration and motivation in the camaraderie and shared purpose I experience through my volunteer work.”

Making a Difference

“Ultimately, my volunteer efforts are driven by a genuine desire to make a positive difference in the lives of others. Whether it’s providing support to individuals in crisis, mentoring youth, advocating for policy change, or participating in community initiatives, I find meaning and fulfillment in contributing to the well-being of those around me.”

Jenny’s commitment to volunteerism is fueled by a combination of personal values, experiences, and aspirations for a more equitable and compassionate society.

For Someone Thinking About Volunteering, I Would Say:

  • Discover Your Passion: Volunteering allows you to explore your interests and passions while making a positive impact. Think about causes or issues that resonate with you deeply, whether it’s environmental conservation, community development, education, or healthcare.
  • Make a Difference: Volunteering provides an opportunity to contribute to something larger than yourself. Whether you’re helping individuals in need, supporting community initiatives, or advocating for social change, your efforts can have a meaningful and lasting impact.
  • Personal Growth: Volunteering offers opportunities for personal growth and development. You can learn new skills, gain valuable experience, and expand your perspective by stepping outside of your comfort zone and engaging with diverse communities and challenges.
  • Connect with Others: Volunteering allows you to connect with like-minded individuals and build relationships based on shared values and goals. It’s a chance to form meaningful connections, build networks, and foster a sense of belonging within your community.
  • Feel Good Factor: Giving back to others and seeing the positive impact of your efforts can bring a sense of fulfillment, satisfaction, and happiness. Volunteering can boost your mood, reduce stress, and increase overall well-being.
  • Create Change: If you’re passionate about addressing social issues or driving positive change in your community or society at large, volunteering provides a platform to be part of the solution and advocate for meaningful reforms.
  • Flexibility: Volunteering can be flexible to fit your schedule and preferences. Whether you have a few hours a week or only occasional availability, there are opportunities to volunteer in ways that suit your lifestyle and commitments.

“Ultimately, volunteering is a rewarding and enriching experience that benefits both individuals and communities. It’s a chance to give back, grow personally and professionally, and create positive change in the world around you. So, if you’re thinking about volunteering, I encourage you to explore opportunities, get involved, and make a difference in whatever way feels meaningful to you.”
