Volunteering Australia announces resignation of CEO, Adrienne Picone

April 29, 2020 by Volunteering Australia

Volunteering Australia (VA) has today announced that Adrienne Picone has advised of her intention to resign as CEO of VA, effective 12 June 2020.

Volunteering Australia Chair Michelle Ewington paid tribute to Adrienne Picone following the announcement.

Ms Ewington said, “Adrienne joined VA in January 2017 and under her leadership VA has strengthened its role as the National Peak body for volunteering by building strategic partnerships and advocating for a stronger and more effective volunteering sector.

“During Adrienne’s tenure, VA has strongly advocated for the recognition of volunteering, including adequate resourcing of volunteer management in grants and funding across community services. The rights and protections of volunteers has also been a key priority.

“Adrienne also oversaw the implementation of a new governance structure, the review of the VA Constitution and ensured VA works in partnership with its Foundation Members, the seven State and Territory volunteering peak bodies.

Ms Picone said, “This has been a very difficult personal decision. I am looking forward to moving back to Tasmania and have accepted the role of CEO at the Tasmanian Council of Social Service (TasCOSS).

“I am pleased to be taking part in yet another National Volunteer Week before I finish up. The staff at Volunteering Australia may be small in number, but certainly not in output or impact. We are fortunate to have a team who are dedicated to the cause, and passionate about making a difference.

“While these are uncertain times, I’m leaving Volunteering Australia in a strong position,” Ms Picone said.

As the national representative peak body for volunteering, Volunteering Australia remains committed to providing consistent and insightful leadership to the sector through this period and into the future. Given the uncertain times we are experiencing the Board has decided to appoint an interim CEO and a full recruitment process will be undertaken once the impact of the current crisis subsides. Details of this appointment are being finalised and more information will be provided in the coming days.
