On World Humanitarian Day, we honour the work of volunteers who help people in need across the world. This year’s theme “it takes a village” aims to bring global appreciation of humanitarian work and shine a spotlight on the volunteers and organisations who provide lifesaving support.
Within Australia, volunteers across the country have stepped up to help their communities through of bushfires, floods, and the COVID-19 pandemic in a most practical demonstration of kindness, resilience, and humanity.
Thanks to the dedication of volunteers to help their fellow Australians, volunteering is evolving to meet the needs of the community.
Now is the time to build on this ‘community spirit’ and recognise the power of volunteering. Volunteering builds social cohesion and community resilience, which will be much needed in the coming years.
It takes a village to support people in crisis and we thank Australia’s community village of volunteers for being there, to ease the burden and bring hope.
