The Story Project (Launch): Australian Multiculturalism Through the Prism of (Informal) Volunteering
Date: Thursday 11 May 2023
Time: 12pm – 1pm (AEST)
Location: Microsoft Teams Webinar (online)
Cost: Free.
This webinar draws upon findings of The Story Project, a nine-month research project conducted by Volunteering Australia (funded by Scanlon Foundation). Moving beyond a deficit based approach, we will showcase diverse stories of volunteering and highlight how these activities may be invisibilised within multicultural contexts.
We will explore two key questions:
- how might we understand Australian multiculturalism through diverse experiences of volunteering?
- how can policymakers better recognise and support informal volunteering within multicultural settings?
Our purpose is to promote better support for informal volunteering through a grounded understanding of its significance for its participants, its relationship with “formal” institutionalised volunteering, as well as its contributions towards social good.
