About Danica Gate

Danica Gate has been a passionate advocate for suicide prevention in Tumby Bay and Districts since the loss of her brother in 2016, transforming personal grief into meaningful community action.

As Chairperson of Beacon of Hope, a volunteer-led suicide prevention network, she has spent the past seven years helping build stronger local support systems, particularly for people impacted by mental health distress, suicide and bereavement.

Contributing an average of 12 volunteer hours each week, Danica coordinates training, events, community engagement and awareness activities that encourage compassionate conversations and reduce stigma. She has also shared her lived-experience advocacy at local and national forums, including the 2024 Suicide Prevention Australia Conference.

Through her leadership, empathy and commitment, Danica has helped create a more connected and informed community, helping ensure people feel supported, heard and able to access help when they need it most.

Danica has been recognised as a State Volunteer of the Year recipient and is a finalist for the inaugural Australian Volunteer of the Year Award, presented during National Volunteer Week.
